The Blotter is intended to show that there is more to policing than many realize and is based on reports from the Bay County Sheriff’s Office.Nov. 28: Dude, you stole a Dell. A local high school reported that a Dell notebook was stolen out of a classroom. The silver machine is valued at $1,800. There are no suspects as of this report but that may change when investigators review the video from that building.
Nov. 28: After an eight-month stay behind bars, a Southport man returned to find that he had been robbed. The man told deputies that his refrigerator, washer and dryer, 16-foot red metallic bass boat, and his furniture (which he said wasn’t worth anything) was stolen. The man also listed the names of the people who stole his property. He would not say how he knew who stole his property while he was in jail. In their report, deputies said the man used to live next to one of the suspects and that the two filed theft reports against one another all the time.
Nov. 28: Not the vacuum cleaner! A man’s ex-roommate came to his apartment to get her stuff. The Panama City man told her to go ahead and get what was hers and leave. She took some of what was his too, he said. The stolen items include a black microwave, pots and pans, glass cookware, a brass flower container and a red vacuum cleaner.
Nov. 29: Look out, that shed is coming right for us! A Fountain man says someone keeps firing bullets at his shed. The windows were busted out during the latest incident. Deputies say the shooting was done by a high-powered rifle. Deputies have no suspects at this time.
Nov. 29: A Fountain man is not being very cooperative with the power company. Company workers discovered the man had broken a seal on the power meter and was stealing power. After workers shut down the power, the man promised to pay a $500 fine, open an account and pay for the power.
He lied.
Instead he broke through the seal again and started stealing power again. Workers discovered the new theft and told the man he would now have to pay two $500 fines plus open an account and pay for power. The man asked the workers for leniency, which they granted, saying he would only have to pay one $500 fine and open an account.
No word on whether he has opened an account.
